Catriona trained as a performer and theatre maker at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formally RSAMD) and worked professionally as an actor and drama practitioner for 4 years before going on to study film practice. Her first film ‘I’m In Away From Here’ was BAFTA nomintated and premiered in competition at the 65th Venice International Film Festival in 2008. ‘A Cuillin Rising’, premiered at the 55th BFI London Film Festival in October 2011 and was nominated for the British Council Award for Best New Short at London Short Film Festival. A participant at Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) talent lab in 2012 and at Berlinale Talent Campus in February 2013, she was also one of the ten international filmmakers selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Talent Lab in September 2013, where she attended private master classes and screenings with filmmakers such as Anfonso Cuaron and Jean-Marc Vallée. As the creative producer for SIGMA Films 2013-15 youth talent initiative, Jumpcut, she produced Dropping Off Michael, which premiered at Palm Springs and was twice BAFTA nominated. Her last short as writer/director, ‘HOWLS’ (2017), was nominated for best Short at Edinburgh International Film Festival and she is currently working with THIRD Films, supported by the Scottish Film talent network though and BFI.net to develop a feature length screenplay titles ‘Safe Days’.
Catriona was also a participant on last years Bellock residencies, supported by Creative Scotland, where she developed her other feature project ‘Gift From God’
Catriona is a part-time lecturer in performance for film practice and acting for screen and at Edinburgh Napier university.
